Kristi - Jennifer, thank you so much for the beautiful photos of Dusty! Fabulous. Loved browsing through your blog and website. As a struggling writer and artist, I respect your work and wish you the best. You have a great talent. Maybe when my boyfriend "finally" pops the question, I'll be giving you a call. Zaca fire ~ Two years later

It has been a little over two years since the Zaca fire burned approximately 240,207 acres in Santa Barbara, making it the largest fire in Santa Barbara county’s history and the second largest fire in California’s history.  It took Fire Fighters a whole two months to get this fire contained and sporadically during that time the westerly winds would cover Santa Barbara in ash.  Growing up in New York it’s no surprise that this was new to me (and my parents as well who called quite frequently).  So as a nature lover, I thought it would be fun to check out what new growth was sprouting up.  It is an amazing site, the new green brush and trees amongst black charred tree trunks.

Meet Adam

This is my fiance Adam.  When we go on hikes I always bring my camera and right around our lunch break I start to get creative and want to try out new photography techniques and use Adam as my model.   Here are my favorite two from our hike to Gibraltar Dam in Santa Barbara

Breanna and Rocky ~ Pet Photography

The power of a memory, the power of a photograph:

I am always so happy to get out and shoot, but this portrait sitting had a certain weight on my heart.  Breanna is one of my friends and recently she has communicated her concern for Rocky’s health.  I don’t blame her because this Rock Star is 16 years old and counting.   So without hesitation, I offered to take some pictures of her and Rocky and she was so excited.  Being able to use photography in such a powerful way, to give someone a gift that can last forever is the reason I wake up in the morning.  Knowing when she looks at these images 20 years down the road she will smile gives me a place and a purpose in this world.

Enjoy!

Brittany and Brianna: Sister Portraits

I had so much fun with these girls.  They get their portraits taken every year with their mother and this was the first year they hired a photographer on their own to surprise their mom (who loves the serious shots).  And since they are both away at college now, their mom has recent portraits of them on her walls.  :)

An Underwater Portrait

To fill up my blog with some of my old favorites, I will be pulling images from the archives.  This image is from my first photoshoot underwater (4 years ago) and is still an inspiration to me.  I photographed this at a time when I had aspirations of becoming a nature and underwater photographer and signed up for the underwater course at Brooks Institute of Photography.  Before we were allowed into the ocean to photograph sealions, fish and sharks, yes sharks, we had a pool assignment so we could learn to use our new gear.  Well with my boyfriend being 3000 miles away I often used photography as a way to vent my emotions and created this series.UnderwaterPhotography

Heather - Jen I Love the photo shoot you did with Vanessa Underwater! You for sure captured the real Shnuff! I love you! We came so far! Look at you now! Your amazing! xxxooo

Dennie ~ A true wisdom keeper

Dennie is a true wisdom keeper and in the four hours I was with her I was inspired in many ways that would take too long to describe.  Her insight on relationships and woman is intriguing.  She holds woman’s circles that somewhat simulate the red tent circles woman used to have long ago and uses a speaking piece (all show below) to give woman a unique, unrestricted place to be themselves.  Amber Sims of All Stages Marketing contacted me for this project.  Amber was hired to brand and market Dennie’s talents and she asked if I could take portraits for Dennie’s website and about page.  Here are some of my favorites:

A couple of words from Dennie:

“Dear Jenn,

Thank you soooooooooo much for those gorgeous photos.
I go back and look at them daily.  Beautiful.

Warm regards, Dennie”

Dennie LaTourelle - Dear Jenn, I wish you and Adam all the very very very best in your new life in your new town. I am very grateful for the photos you took that day o so long ago! You are a gifted photographer and a lovely young woman. I sure wish you could have sat with us a season in the Red Tent. Maybe some day. Look for a great weekly women's circle to be a part of in Boulder. All us women need the counsel of other women in our lives. Weekly! Much love to you both, Dennie LaTourelle

Jessica Arana ~ Graphic Artist

Jessica Arana is a graphic artists currently living in California.  She is currently creating a new website and she asked me to take some creative shots of some of her work.  She had the idea of holding up her work as a way of showcasing it and we went with it.  I think when everything is done her website will look amazing.  She is one talented chica!!!!

Chris and Huda’s Wedding

I had the honor of photographing Chris and Huda’s wedding in Washington D.C.  They are a beautiful couple and I had so much fun with both of them.  They had an Islamic Ceremony at the Islamic Center in a beautiful Mosque.  Then Huda changed into her white wedding dress and met Chris at the Lincoln Memorial where he saw her in her dress for the first time.  It was so Romantic!!!!!  That was my favorite part of the day!  Then we headed over to the Marakesh Palace in downtown D.C. where they threw an Arabian Nights themed party with a 7 course exotic Moroccan dinner and a belly dancer!!  It was such a blast!
